The Preserve is organized into various vegetative zones ranging from marshlands to native riparian & upland vegetation areas.
Approximately 298 species of birds have been identified on the site, and many insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals have found homes there as well. There are interpretive education panels on wildlife and vegetation throughout. Viewing blinds have been established at various locations near the edge of several ponds to further enhance the visitor’s experience. A floating boardwalk crossing the northern end of the lake allows visitors a close up view of the fish and ducks on the water. The preserve also includes restroom facilities.
Join us for a leisurely stroll on approximately 1 mile, passing by all 7 ponds and ending at Water Ranch Lake. There are many benches to rest on and watch the critters. The site has ADA accessible trails. There is no DA fee for this event but please register so that we can expect you.
If the preserve parking lot is full, there is parking at the library to the west which has a connecting trail to the preserve. We will meet at the head of the giant snake wall just S of the preserve parking lot.
After our stroll, join us for lunch at Casanova Brothers Pizza located @ 959 N Val Vista Dr Gilbert 85234. 1.5 miles W of preserve.
