Alamo Lake State Park is one of the best places to fish for bass in Arizona. The crystal clear lake is surrounded by mountainous terrain speckled with brush, wildflowers and cacti making for a visually pleasing experience. The park has good wildlife viewing opportunities, and you may spot a bald or golden eagle. Stargazers are sure to enjoy the amazing views of the night sky with the nearest city lights some 40 miles away!
The Group Camp #1, which is located next to Alamo Lake, has one 60 X 20 Ramada, one large barbeque grill, vault toilet, fire pit & plenty of places to set up your camp. Restrooms with flush toilets, RV dump, fish cleaning station & showers are nearby at Camp Area C.
You can arrive anytime after 1pm on Thursday. Follow the directions below to get to the group area.
On Saturday at 4:30 pm, we will start grilling burgers & chicken for dinner. Social at the Ramada begins about 4pm. Dessert will be provided. Please bring an appetizer to share.
Remember to bring food, drinking water, hiking gear, swimming attire and firewood. Quiet time is from 10 pm until 6 am. Your moderately behaved dogs are welcome.
Directions: Get to Wenden (33.8226956,-113.5413674). Head NW on 2nd St. As you approach The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the right, the road will curve N and become Alamo Rd. After approximately 32.8 miles, turn right onto Cholla Rd. In less than a mile, you will pass Camp Area C. 1.5 miles after you turn onto Cholla, turn left into the Group Camp #1.
