Houston Mesa Campground is located in the forested northern section of Tonto National Forest, just one mile north of Payson, Arizona and less than two hours from Phoenix. As the fifth largest forest in the United States, the Tonto National Forest is one of the most-visited "urban" forests in the United States
There are several amenities to make campers feel at home, including showers (coin-operated) and flush toilets. All of the sites are accessible.
You can arrive any time after Noon on Friday, April 30th. You will receive an email with your site number. We have sites 1, 2, &3 in the Mountain Loop , you will receive an email with your site number. Houston Mesa offers equestrian, RV, and tent-only campsites, this campground can accommodate a range of visitors and offers plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors, including several miles of hiking and horseback riding trails nearby
Saturday we are doing a Potluck dinner at 4:30 pm. Here is what is being brought so far:
- Dessert or whatever is needed
- Spaghetti and meatballs in meat sauce
- Caprese salad
- Pasta Salad
- Chili
- Baked Beans
- Sloppy Joes
We gather around the eating area at 3:30 pm for the social hour. Feel free to bring an appetizer and your drink of choice for our social hour.
The fee is $70 per site for the weekend. For those wanting to share a site/cost with another tenting party, please contact Carol or Barb below 2nd car at site overnight at tent site can be charged $8
There is a toilet & shower facility, Dumpster & fire pit. Firewood would be appreciated. There is drinking water. (Please check current park regulations to confirm if fires are allowed). Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. Check out on Sunday is noon.
From Payson, AZ, go north for 1 mile to the junction of Highway 87 (Beeline Highway) and Forest Road 199 (Houston Mesa Road). Turn right (east) onto Forest Road 199 for .10 miles. The campground is on the north side of Houston Mesa Road
