Camping with us
Houston Mesa is a beautiful wooded campground at the north edge of Payson, far enough from the town center to make it quiet but close enough that it's convenient to restaurants and shopping. We have Group Site 1, Fox. The site is non-electric, but the campground has restrooms, showers, and potable water. The site can accommodate up to 10 vehicles, including trailers and RVs with a maximum length of 70 feet. There's even a corral that can house up to three horses! Well-behaved pets are welcome too. (See all site details.)
Friday and Saturday evenings we will gather for a BYOB "happy hour"; at night we will sit around a campfire, Saturday and Sunday mornings Desert Adventures will provide coffee and pastry. When you register, let us know if you'd like to have a potluck Saturday night.
Hiking with us (or on your own)
Your trip leaders will lead a visit to the impressive Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, about 20 minutes' drive from the campground. There you can enjoy the easily accessible park, visitors center, and views of the bridge; you can also take a challenging hike down to the creek under the bridge.
Water Wheel Recreation Area is about 15 minutes' drive away from camp. You can stroll along the creek and rest on the bank or take a challenging hike to the falls. If you are interested in going there, you may go on your own or invite others.
Those are just two of the nearby attractions to explore with us or on your own. You can check out TripAdvisor for more information about things to do in and around Payson.
Your trip leaders are Andy & Daniel.
